 The first world championship in American football took place in Palermo (Italy) from June 24th until July 4th, 1999. Six teams of four continents fighted against each other. Japan and Mexico played in the finale on the end. Japan won in a thrilling game for the first world championship in the overtime. 330 player and coaches all together took part in the tournament.

4.7.1999 - Il GIAPPONE vince la World Cup.

L'intercetto di Toshinobu Ichikawa nell'overtime regala al Giappone il titolo della World Cup '99. Dopo una bella e combattuta partita terminata sull'inusuale punteggio di 0-0, il Giappone segnava al primo possesso dell'overtime, cion un passaggio di 5 yards da Sunaga ad Abe. Il Messico prendeva palla per il suo possesso nell'overtime, ma al primo tentativo il QB Villanueva si faceva intercettare.
